Hello August 2022

I was born and married in the month of August. Birthday cakes were very important to me.

My mom always ordered our birthday cakes because we had the best bakeries and pastry shops where we lived. My favorite birthday cake was from Charles Bakery on Arthur Avenue in the Bronx.

Happy BORTHDAY Jan. The Italian baker could not spell, but he could make a great 3 color cookie cake. This was a very tasty decadent dark chocolate frosting.

August is my birthday month and my anniversary month

My upside down birthday cake

My favorite cake was made by a local bakery, Charles Bakery. My husband, then boyfriend, decided to surprise me with this peaches and cream birthday cake. As he's coming up the last flight of steps, the box topples and falls upside down on the hallway floor. I told him it was no problem. My sister scooped up the whole top and fixed the cake. It was still so delicious. It was a memorial birthday.

So many years and so many birthday cakes.

Feeling very nostalgic on this birthday. Gone are the days of family around the table while cutting your birthday cake.

The world is changing right before our eyes. But, you should not feel that you should change to please the world.

Continue to be yourself and be proud of who you are. Celebrate the birthdays and milestones.

Life is precious and so I thank God for another birthday.

Happy Birthday and Anniversary month 💕

Let's get baking!

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees

1 whole thin skinned orange, remove the stem and cut in quarters. Keep the skin on the oranges.

In a clean large food processor, add the orange quarters, 1 1/4 cups of sugar, three large eggs, 1 tsp of vanilla, 1 tsp of orange extract, 1 tbsp of Triple Sec liqueur, optional, 2/3 cup vegetable oil.

Pulse all ingredients in the processor and then puree until mixture becomes a batter with specs of orange peel.

Add to the processor:

2 1/4 cups all purpose flour

2 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

Process all dry ingredients until they are entirely incorporated into the batter.

Bake in a greased and floured spring pan, using a parchment paper circle on top of the greased bottom.*

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Place in the center rack of the oven. Bake for 30-40 minutes, depending on your oven.

Remove from your oven and let it cool down completely. Dust with powdered sugar or make a drizzle of 1/4 cup powdered sugar and fresh squeezed orange until thick and smooth. Pour onto the cooled fresh orange cake.
