Whip up this easy Apple Crumb pie and you'll be the most popular person around. Everyone loves apple pie, but when you add crumb topping, look out....
First the ingredients:
5-7 large apples (I use granny smith, but you can use your favorite)
2 TBS sweet butter
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup brown sugar
Pinch of salt
Optional: raisins and chopped walnuts
In large skillet, add the butter, let it almost completely melt. Add peeled, cored, thinly sliced apples (about 8 slices to one apple).
Add remaining ingredients and toss until apples are tender. Stir in optional nuts and raisins. Set aside to cool.
Roll out 1 pie shell or purchase frozen pie shell. Place in pie plate and pierce with fork. Place in 375 degree oven for 10 minutes to avoid soggy bottom.
When cool, add cooked apples and make the crumb topping....
In bowl add the following:
1 stick sweet butter, cut up in cubes
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup of white sugar
1 cup white all purpose flour
Directions:
Add all ingredients to your bowl. With impeccably clean hands, pinch the mixture until it resembles a tan color. Don't overdue it, keep the topping one color and there should be an even size crumbs.
Add the crumbs onto the prepared apple mixture, making sure the apples are covered.
Bake in preheated 375 degree oven for approximately 30-35 minutes. The crust should be golden brown.
Bake on cookie sheet to avoid spills...
Cool before cutting into.
Tastes great with ice cream or whipped cream or just plain.
Oh, what a treat!
